Financial Freeeeeeedom!
Financial Freeeeeeedom!

One of my favourite movies is ‘Braveheart’ and one of the memorable speeches in the movie is when William Wallace shouts to his men, just before they fight the much larger English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge:
“Fight and you may die. Run and you’ll live — at least a while. And, dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom!?!”
Financial freedom is very similar. You have to fight for it now or it’s never going to happen. How will you feel many years from now if you miss the opportunity? We can’t turn back time!
But what is financial freedom? It’s getting to the day when we don’t HAVE to turn up to work anymore and we can spend our time doing whatever we want to. It’s the day when you reach the point in life where you can live the life you want without any more money stress.
Wouldn’t it be great to get to the point where you can have the lifestyle you enjoy without having to work anymore? For most people, that is the dream of financial freedom and I can guarantee you most people will never achieve it.
As Dave Ramsey says, “Live like no one else today, so you can live like no one else tomorrow”.
If financial freedom sounds like something you’d like in life, then you need to do the opposite of what most people do with their money. And before you get the wrong idea, that doesn’t mean having to go on some crazy budget where you live on baked beans 4 nights a week. It’s simply about having one eye on the long term and making the most of your opportunities.
You might be thinking financial freedom is out of reach for you, that you’ll never achieve it no matter what you do. The opposite is true! For most people, financial freedom is achievable with three things:
• PLANNING
• COMMITMENT
• TIME
This is because it’s not about how much you earn, it’s about what you do with it.
I can’t turn back time, but I can help with planning and commitment. If you’re unsure about whether you’re on track for financial freedom, then let’s have a chat.
The reality is that for all of us there will come a day when we stop working for money. The difference will be that some of us will stop at 67 and have little but the Age Pension to live on, i.e. not the lifestyle we had while working. While those of us who make a plan, stick with it and use time to our advantage will live with the financial freedom of having all sorts of options available to us and perhaps even retire early.
Here’s the thing… Don’t plan for retirement, that’s boring! Plan for financial freeeeeeedom!
Cheers,
Daniel
